RE: Everybody Matters Workshop
Dear Ms. Brown:
Thank you for presenting the
Everybody Matters Workshop to the Baylor University School of Social Work
Master of Social Work first-year graduate students on September 22, 2008. The workshop was the cornerstone of the
course module on diversity.
The Everybody Matters Workshop
is an incredibly impactful human relations experience. Your presentation format and delivery style
permitted a highly emotionally charged topic to be engaged in a manner that
captured the head and the heart of each student. You were masterful.
The workshop tapped the
reservoirs of hope and the well spring of respect that often lay dormant in many
people. Our students were intellectually
challenged. The activities required the use of critical thinking skills, the
ability to be vulnerable and the willingness to be stretched in all areas. The workshop, literally, supported students
in standing up for and voicing their thoughts and feelings and exploring ways to
more effectively and sensitively demonstrate respect for self and others.
As the facilitator of the
Everybody Matters Workshop, you quickly engaged the students, established trust
and guided students to think outside the box.
In doing so, students un- reservedly talked about the amazingly varied
and vibrant tapestry of the population. The unique struggles and strengths,
similarities and differences of diverse groups that make up our world (and that
were represented in the class) were discussed in a sensitive and forthright
manner.
Your facilitation style created
and sustained a non-threatening and supportive venue where workshop
participants (our students) could hear, see and think about commonalities and
differences across the human spectrum and celebrate diversity.
Again, Ms. Brown, thank you
for presenting this dynamic, sensitive and highly impactful workshop.
Respectfully,
Erma M. Ballenger, PhD
Lecturer & Director of
Graduate Field Education

Featured Client Testimony from LinkedIn.com
"I attended a seminar that LaShawn led on diversity training. Going into the seminar, I thought it would just be about race and ethnicity and a lecture. However, it was very interactive and touched my heart.
In only a few hours, it changed the thoughts of myself and others about things that we had thought for years.
The training touched on race, religion, birth order, age, economic status and more. It was very holistic and well worth the time.
LaShawn led the group with the utmost professionalism. She never once presented her own opinion, but looked to allow the audience to develop their own opinions and thoughts."
